David Fewer
David Fewer is an intellectual property and technology lawyer and currently serves as Director of CIPPIC, the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic at the University of Ottawa. For 25 years, David has been in the room where Canadian copyright gets made and tested: courts, committees, and consultations. He has advocated for consumers unfairly targeted by copyright trolls, and argued for digital lock laws that promote new business models without locking out creativity and freedom of expression. More recently, he has pushed for recognition that copyright arises from human creativity, even as generative AI reshapes cultural production. Throughout, David and CIPPIC advance the public interest in Canadian copyright law and policy.
